Rich created Country Cabinets in 1976. He started the business after an 11-year stint in education (the last five years as an elementary school principal). Since the company’s early years, when Rich built cabinets and furniture in the basement of his home, the business has grown to its present 6,000-square-foot location on East Conway Road in North Conway, NH.
Rich and his wife Joy live in Hales Location, NH. They have two grown daughters, Kim and Carrie. They also have two grandchildren, Alex and Sophie. Rich enjoys his longtime membership in the Kiwanis Club of MWV, working in his gardens, and golfing when time permits.
As a kitchen designer, Rich prides himself as being not just a designer, but also a creative problem-solver for his clients. His design work has been published in national magazines such as Builder and Timber Homes Illustrated. His creativity and problem-solving expertise is well known throughout the valley.
As owner, Rich oversees and is involved in all kitchens, baths, etc., created at Country Cabinets. Whether he comes to your home to do a site measure or collaborates with other designers, he has a hand in every project from design to installation. Come visit our showroom and see how he can help turn your dream kitchen into reality.
Joy: Chief Financial Officer
With a degree in Business Management, Joy oversees the financial aspects of the company. Together with her husband, Rich, she is one of the driving forces that has developed Country Cabinets into the business that it is today. She is affectionately referred to by her husband as the “bean counter.”
Before joining her husband in the business in 1989, she was the controller for a local real estate firm. Joy has been active in the community, having served on boards and committees such as American Cancer Society, Mount Washington Chamber of Commerce, and Arts Jubilee. Interests include walking, bowling, knitting, Mahjong, Sudoku, and, of course, spending time with her two grandchildren!
Carrie: Vice President/Designer
Carrie was recruited in 1997 to learn the design trade from her father, Rich Check. With her natural artistic abilities & eye for color she quickly became an extremely talented designer. Recognized as one of the top kitchen designers in the valley, her customers praise her for her patience and creativity as well as her ability to work with challenging rooms. She is always available to offer suggestions and share her knowledge. Some of her design work has been published in national publications such as Accent Magazine and Signature Kitchen and Baths.
Carrie, her husband Corey, and their dog Brodie, live in Conway, NH. They enjoy snowmobiling in the winter, and “Jeeping” in the summer. They also enjoy spending time at their camp in Errol, NH. Carrie’s hobbies include crafts, reading, and gardening
Lynn-Del: Design Assistant
Lynn-Del graduated from Thomas College, in Waterville, ME with a degree in Business Management and brings 20+ years of experience in the building trades and business ownership.
After raising her three children in Portsmouth, NH, Lynn-Del now lives in Hiram, Maine on the shores of Stanley Pond with her dog, Tula. Lynn-Del enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, slow boat rides on the pond and bird watching.
Lynn-Del, a Rotarian, joined the North Conway Rotary Club after 18 years with the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, NH. During her membership in Rotary, Lynn-Del actively participated in all four avenues of service and several international mission trips. Community involvement and engagement remains an important and valued part of Lynn-Del’s everyday life.
Caroline: Administrative Assistant
Caroline has been a member of the Country Cabinets team for ten years. She is responsible for greeting our customers and is known as “the friendly voice on the phone.” She comes to us with 20+ years of experience in the customer service industry. She also assists Joy with day-to-day bookkeeping and the designers with a myriad of tasks. Whatever happens at Country Cabinets, one can be sure that Caroline is a part of it! Caroline’s second love is music. Her band (Roundabout) has been very successful playing all over Maine and the Mount Washington Valley.
Erica comes to Country Cabinets with over 15+ years of experience in retail management. She has a natural eye for colors and textures. She enjoys decorating, shopping, and is a sun-seeker. Summer is her favorite season. She enjoys boating and riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle. She just purchased her first home (a fixer-upper), so she’ll be able to sympathize and relate to her customers challenges.
Toby brings a unique background to our installation team. After high school, Toby worked his way up to executive chef in some of the finest restaurants in the Mount Washington Valley, Florida, and Colorado. Along with cooking, Toby was honing his skills in green building and fine woodworking, deciding to follow in the footsteps of his father, a master carpenter; he eventually became self-employed in the home construction field.
We think that his decision to combine his fine woodworking skills with installing kitchens is very fitting and a win-win situation for Toby, Country Cabinets, and our customers!
Toby lives in Center Conway. He loves the outdoors and in his leisure time can be found hiking, skiing, or fly fishing (his favorite).
Chelsea Hill: Designer
Chelsea is a Fryeburg Academy and University of Maine graduate, and comes to Country Cabinets with more than two year’s kitchen design experience. Her favorite part about kitchen design is the people, she loves educating her customers on product choices, and gets excited with them during the selection process. Chelsea is a resident of Silver Lake, and has a toddler son at home who keeps her busy. They both enjoy swimming in the lake when the weather allows, and wish the warm season was longer.
Brodie: Showroom Greeter
Brodie (named after chief Brody in JAWS) is the best “official greeter” Country Cabinets has. Carrie, his mom, has been bringing him to work since she got him. Brodie will always greet you with his tail wagging and is so friendly. However, Brodie has his own room (which houses his treats) and can be put there if you have allergies or are just not fond of dogs.
Seamus: Showroom Greeter
Seamus is the newest addition to the Country Cabinets “Greeter” team. Still under 1 year, he is delightfully investigating everything! Please tell us, when visiting, if you are allergic to him. He will be sent to his treats and toys on the second floor, away from all clients.
